It saddened my heart today, I read the headlines in dismay

People everywhere runnin’ down the USA.

How soon they all forget, through blood, tears and sweat;

America has remained the land of the free.

United States we are, and united we must stand

Behind the actions of our President.

If you don’t like it leave, but I cherish my liberty,

And I’m willing to fight for the freedom that I have.

I’m American through and through

I’ll die for the Red, White and Blue.

For life, liberty and pursuit of happiness,

I’ll fight for the country God has blessed.

We gave a helping hand to the neighbors of our land;

When an earthquake brought their country to its knees.

We helped others just the same, still they denounce our American ways,

I guess their loyalty is as bad as their memory.

We’ve been tormented too many times by Khomeini and Kadaffee’s kind,

Innocent people have been killed by their terrorists.

The time has come to take a stand with everyone joinin’ hand in hand.

Wavin’ Old Glory and shoutin’ Victory.

Cause, I’m American through and through;

I’ll die for the Red, White and Blue.

For life, liberty and pursuit of happiness,

I’ll fight for the country God has blessed.

I originally wrote “I’m American” in April, 1986 a few days after the United States bombed Lybia in retaliation for terrorist attacks that took American lives. Within 14 days, the song was recorded and being played on the radio. On September 11, 2001 America experienced the worst terrorist attack ever with the bombing of the World Trade Center Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as well as another plane crash in Pennsylvania. I was encouraged to re-release this song during this time of trial for our nation, and it is being sent out nationwide to radio. The CD single will be made available at pure cost to everyone, and the song will be made available on as many websites as possible for a free download. Though the song was written 15 years ago, the heart of the problem and the heart of the song remain the same. This terrorism is an attack on the greatest asset of our nation, our people. May we as Americans have the faith and the determination to overcome this trial and once again renew our commitment to be one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
